Top ten news of School of Economics at Peking University in 2020

  1.The School Council attaches great importance to the study of ideology and theory and has established a long-term learning mechanism through a variety of methods such as the combination of concentrated learning and independent learning, online learning and offline learning, as well as theoretical learning and social practice.

  2.In face of the Covid-19, the School of Economics at Peking University established an epidemic prevention and control working group as soon as possible. On January 31, the School Council issued a "Letter to All Members of the School of Economics at Peking University", advising all members of the School to shoulder important responsibilities, charge forward, and make contributions. 

  The School provided living allowances for teachers and students in Hubei, sent anti-epidemic materials, raised masks through various efforts and distributed them to teachers and students in the hospital. According to incomplete statistics, a total of 190 million yuan of donations and materials were provided by enterprises controlled by alumni or individuals during the epidemic.

  3.In the summer of 2020, the School established 12 practice teams, including 5 offline teams. Under the premise of strictly complying with the epidemic prevention requirements, the teachers and students of the School went to Wuji in Hebei, Yicheng in Shanxi, Cangshan in Fujian, Nanping in Fujian, and Chaling in Hunan to carry out practical activities.

  4.2020 is the 120th anniversary of Mr. Chen Daisun, the famous economist and educator in China. To commemorate the contribution of Mr. Chen Daisun and carry forward his spirit and thoughts, the School of Economics held a series of commemorative activities.

  5.The School of Economics at Peking University, the National Development Research Institute, and the New Structural Economics Institute reached a framework cooperation agreement to jointly organize workshops on "Political Economics", "International Economics and Empirical Industrial Organization", "Macroeconomics", "Micro-Theoretical Economics", "Econometrics, Finance and Big Data Analysis", "Labor-Health Economics", "Development and Public Finance" and "Economic History". By the end of 2020, 209 workshops of high quality shave been uccessfully held (82 in 2020). 

  6.From July to September, the School of Economics at Peking University successively launched the Peking University-University of Chicago International Policy Analysis Lab, SEPKU-Oxford University Oriel College Summer School Online Credit Course, SEPKU-University of Zurich Online International Summer School and a series of online international courses such as "International Trade" and "Frontier Theory of Currency, Credit, Payment and Financial Markets". During the fall semester, the School held a series of lectures by famous Japanese experts.

  7.The Experimental Class of New Structural Economics at Peking University (Lin Yifu Class) was jointly established by the School of Economics at Peking University and the Institute of New Structural Economics of Peking University. In April, the new structural economics experimental class started the enrollment process to recruit students from the 2018 and 2019 undergraduates of Peking University. The program officially began on 18th September.

  8.On 17th October, the 2020 Overseas Forum and the Second European Forum were held through the online conference platform. The forum was co-sponsored by the School of Economics at Peking University and Oriel College, University of Oxford, under the topic "THE FUTURE OF GLOBAL ECONOMY IN AN ERA OF COVID-19".

  9.On the 11th December, the School held the third "Deans Forum of Schools of Economics of China's 100 Universities", focusing on the core theme of "new development stage, new development concept, new development pattern-economic innovation and development".

  10.In July 2020, Professor Liu Yi was appointed Counselor of the State Council, becoming the second teacher of the School to receive this honor after Professor Li Qingyun. At present, there are 5 teachers of Peking University serving as counselors of the State Council and 3 teachers serving as librarians of the Central Museum of Literature and History. On the 10th September, Peking University's Teacher's Day Celebration 2020 was held. Nearly 30 teachers (teams) in the School were commended by the school.
