Jeffrey Brown is Associate Professor of finance and the Julian Simon Memorial Fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and Associate Director of the NBER Retirement Research Center. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

During 2001-2002, Dr. Brown served as Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, and as a staff member for the President’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security. In January 2005, he was nominated by President Bush to serve on the Social Security Advisory Board, and is awaiting Senate confirmation.

Dr. Brown holds a Ph.D. in economics from MIT, a Master’s degree from Harvard University, and a B.A. from Miami University. He has published extensively on public and private insurance markets, including publications leading economics journals and numerous books. He is co-author of the book The Role of Annuities in Financing Retirement from MIT Press, and serves as co-editor of the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance, published by Cambridge University Press.
