Harold D. SKIPPER, Jr.
Harold D. SKIPPER is former Professor of Risk Management and Insurance and former Chairman of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at Georgia State University. He retired from GSU effective 1 July 2005. He also held the C.V. Starr Chair of International Insurance. His non-academic experience includes serving as an Economics Affairs Officer with the United Nations in Geneva and as consultant to regulators and intergovernmental organizations, including involvement with the World Bank, OECD, and UNCTAD. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris and at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is past President of the American Risk and Insurance Association, past Vice President of the International Insurance Society, and was instrumental in the formation of the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association for which he was awarded lifetime membership. He serves as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Geneva Association and is a member of Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international scholars. Besides several dozen articles, his publications include the books International Risk and Insurance: An Environmental/Managerial Approach and Life and Health Insurance, now in its 13th edition, with both books having been translated into Japanese and into simplified and traditional Chinese. His bachelors degree is from GSU and his masters and Ph.D. degrees are from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
